Alga: a sensory experience
Nani wanted textures and colors to be perceived through all the senses, turning the interaction with the rug into a fully immersive experience. And so, Alga came to life: a shug rug that stands out for its concept, form, and color.
Designed with the sensitivity and artisanal expertise that characterize Nani's work, Alga becomes a piece that stimulates the senses through carefully selected textures. Both hands and feet can perceive its nuances, creating an intimate connection with the material and color.
At first glance, its organic, flowing shape is striking, woven in a hand-knotted technique, framed by a hand-loomed dhurrie. This layering is not accidental, it serves a purpose: to bring marine fields into focus, Nani’s inspiration for this collection.

However, the complexity of its design goes beyond its form. The biggest challenge was to create a visually dynamic rug while using such long fibers. After an extensive process of trial and error, the creative team found the perfect formula: achieving volume required a careful balance of different fiber types, thread densities, and color variations.
The collection has been crafted using a combination of different fibers: Afghan wool, New Zealand wool, New wool and Jute.
With this new collection, Nani Marquina reaffirms her commitment to emotional design, craftsmanship, and innovation, offering a piece that not only decorates but also engages in dialogue with those who experience it.

A layered palette was developed to create depth, with subtle yet deliberate touches of contrasting colors, resulting in an organic color distribution that further enhances the rug’s sense of movement.
Alga is available in 3 colors (Off White, Ochre and Grey) and 4 sizes to enhance any interior.
