A pioneering vision, Designed with joy
Design was always present in Nani Marquina’s home. Her father, Rafael Marquina—creator of the iconic Marquina Oil Cruet—was one of the pioneers of industrial design in Spain. Inspired by his creativity, but drawn towards art and craftsmanship, Nani followed her own path.

In 1987, she founded nanimarquina in Barcelona with a pioneering vision: to transform the traditional rug into a contemporary design piece.
Since then, Nani has continued to explore colour, texture and traditional craftsmanship, creating rugs that bring warmth, personality and emotion into everyday spaces.

Beyond rugs
Our passion for design extends beyond textiles.
The Museu del Càntir invited Nani to create her own interpretation of the traditional clay botijo—an object rooted in centuries of Mediterranean culture.
Given a contemporary character by Nani, every botijo is shaped and painted by hand, making each one unique. Produced as a limited series, it is a small piece of design made to be used and enjoyed.

Design runs in the family
In 2002, Nani’s daughter, Maria Piera, joined nanimarquina to lead its international expansion. Today, as Managing Director, she continues the family’s pioneering spirit—taking a Barcelona-born company into homes and projects around the world.
As nanimarquina has grown, so has its world of design. Beyond rugs, the collection now explores new ways of living with textiles through sculptural poufs, tapestries and pieces such as Folded.

CRAFTSMANSHIP: Made by hand, with all the beauty that implies
Behind every rug are skilled artisans, time-honoured techniques and knowledge passed from one generation to the next.
Different designs call for different techniques. Hand-knotting allows for precision, intricate detail and exceptional durability; hand-looming creates structure, texture and rhythm; while hand-tufting makes fluid lines, organic forms and varied pile heights possible. Each rug is carefully finished and checked to meet our quality standards.
Design with a positive impact
We believe good design should be beautiful, long-lasting and responsibly made. That means caring for the people behind our rugs, reducing our environmental impact and being transparent about how each piece is created.
Since 2002, we have collaborated with Care & Fair, supporting education and healthcare initiatives for rug-making communities in India and Pakistan, including the Amita Vidyalaya school in Bhadohi.
In 2026, nanimarquina became the first rug brand to introduce a Digital Product Passport across its entire rug collection.
Each passport shares detailed information about the materials, artisanal process and environmental footprint of the rug, together with guidance on care, maintenance and circularity.
