Details

Discovery reflects Lucia Eames’ ongoing practice of observing, collecting and composing fragments of nature into spontaneous scenes. Unlike other pieces in the collection, this rug directly translates one of her hand drawings, preserving the immediacy and freedom of the original line.

Combining kilim weaving with embroidery, the drawing is layered onto a neutral base as if placed on a blank page. This technique allows for a precise yet light graphic expression, where elements seem to float across the surface.

Its flat and durable construction makes it especially suitable for spaces where artistic expression and practicality must coexist.

    100% Hand spun Afghan wool

  • Type

    Hand Loomed

  • Total height

    4 mm

Fibers

100% Afghan Wool

Afghan wool comes from sheep grazed high in the mountains of Afghanistan. Naturally corrugated, it is a very resistant material with a rough touch. Due to the curl of the wool and the irregularity in the yarn, when weaving it it achieves an aged and unique look.

Technique

Hand loomed Kilim

Manual weaving on a vertical or horizontal loom that plays with the intersection between weft and warp.

It is characterized by being thin, hairless and with geometric motifs. High-density rugs, durable and resistant, even when they are very light rugs.

Lucia Eames Collection

Lucia Eames, born in 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Charles and Catherine Eames, spent the first 10 years of her life with them-including time in the rich creative environment of Michigan’s Cranbrook Academy of Art.  After her parents’ divorce, she returned to St. Louis with her mother for the school year, spending summers in California with her father and Ray Eames. While deeply influenced by that legendary design duo, Lucia Eames’s own creative path unfolded quietly and deliberately, largely outside the public eye beginning with her education in the 1950s and her move to California in 1960, all the while raising 5 children. Today, her work rewards renewed attention, allowing her unique voice, sensibility, and artistic language to emerge in their own right.
