Details

MATIZ reinterprets traditional weaving techniques by shifting the focus from pre-dyed yarns to a more experimental approach. Each rug begins with a handwoven base in a single colour. Once completed, a contrasting tone is applied through a manual dyeing process, allowing the pigment to interact organically with the woven surface.

Fiber

65% Hand spun Afghan Wool

Hand spun Afghan wool comes from sheep grazing high in the mountains of Afghanistan. Naturally wavy, it is a very resistant material with a rough touch. Due to the curl of the wool and the irregularity in the yarn, when weaving it, it achieves an aged and unique appearance.

35% New Zealand wool

Typically, New Zealand wool is known to be the whitest, cleanest, purest and most natural in the world. Its softness is due in part to the altitude and the vegetation available to the herds. It is guaranteed to be cruelty-free.

Technique

Hand loomed Dhurrie

The use of recycled yarns directly contributes to reducing unmanaged waste, as well as CO2 emissions, since there is no need to produce or transport virgin material. The tone of these yarns preserves the irregularity and tonal richness of the wool piles.
